Winter Sports update- Sat. Dec. 5

As of today, Saturday, Dec. 5, Alleghany Co., Roanoke Co., Botetourt Co., Carroll Co., Craig Co., Smyth Co., Washington Co., Wythe Co., Russell Co., the Cities of Galax, Salem, Roanoke, and Covington all are in delays for the start of Winter Sports. Pulaski Co., Montgomery Co., Floyd Co., Giles Co., and the City of Radford are still supposed to start practices Monday, December 7 as RodneySportsNow hasn’t heard any difference as of now.

Pulaski Co. High School boys basketball has announced that Coach Abreon Rajai Hines is the junior varsity boys’ new basketball coach.

Update on Winter Sports as of Dec. 3

RodneySportsNow has been informed that Roanoke Co. and Roanoke City Schools have voted to delay the start of Winter practice. Practices were supposed to start Monday, December 7. Across the Commonwealth of Virginia, there have been 37 high schools to opt-out of Winter Sports. No timetable has been set for when Roanoke Co. and Roanoke City schools will decide to either start practices or opt-out entirely. Stay tuned as it seems things are changing daily.

Two Northern Virginia counties have now delayed winter sports decisions until Jan. 4. This is as of Thursday morning Dec. 3. The Arby’s Basketball Classic has been canceled. The annual tournament for high school teams was to be played from Dec. 26- Dec. 31in Bristol.
