Pulaski Co High School will name Mark Dixon as their new football coach. Dixon has been at Galax High school for the last 10 years. His record was 101-35. He won a state championship at Galax in 2015. His team played for a state title in 2018 and 2019. Last season Riverheads defeated Galax 31-24 as the Maroon Tide finished with a 13-2 record. Dixon is a University of Virginia graduate and also played football for the NFL Miami Dolphins.

Pulaski Co. Cougars girls basketball coach Bradley Sutphin has stepped down. Sutphin has taken a teaching position at Narrows High School. He becomes the second head coach to step down in the last week from Pulaski Co. High School. Football coach Stephen James stepped down last week.
Former Carroll Co. head football coach and Pulaski Co., Jack Turner has accepted the Chatham High School head football coaching position.
Pulaski Co. Cougar football coach Stephen James has resigned. He also will not be teaching at the high school either. Coach James has informed Rodney Sports Now that he will be teaching at George Wythe High School next school year, as of now only. Coach James said, ” It’s time, I haven’t missed the spring practices/weight lifting like I thought I would. It’s time. It was extremely hard to tell the kids about my decision.” Coach James was 44-23 as head man of Pulaski Co. and the Cougars went 9-3 this past season. He was also the head coach of Fort Chiswell High school. The search for a new head football coach will begin immediately.

VHSL has canceled all of the spring sports for the 2020 season, with a vote of 31-0-1. VHSL will have a meeting in late June to discuss if there will be Fall sports for the 20-21 high school year. VHSL Executive Director Dr. John W. “Billy” Haun made the announcement. The June meeting will be June 25 unless it needs to be changed as of this time.
