Pulaski Co. suffers loss to Hidden Valley

Dublin…Sometimes things just don’t turn out in your favor. That’s been the story for the Pulaski Co. boy’s basketball the last three games.

Hidden Valley outscored the Cougars 22-7 in the second quarter, and the Cougars could never fully recover as they lost to the district leading Titans 70-60.

The Titans (15-4, 9-1) got balancing scoring as they placed four players in double figures. Jonah Fitzgerald led the way with 19 points, with 16 of those coming in the first half. Andrew Duncan came off the bench to drain four three’s and finished with 14 points. Caleb Page pumped in 13 and Joe Lichtenstein knocked down six field goals and finished with 12 points in the victory.

Senior point guard Logan Robertson led the Cougars (10-8, 5-4) with a game and team high 21points. CC Grubb was the other Cougar in double figures with 13. The Cougars only dressed nine players as injuries, sickness and other things reduced their squad to nine.

The Cougars lead after the opening period 14-12, but the Titans would drive and score and then drive and dish in the second quarter sinking the Cougars to a 13 point halftime deficit, 34-21.

The Cougars would actually outscore the Titans 39-36 in the second half. The closest the Cougars would get was 68-60 with just 20 seconds left in the game. Their biggest deficit was 19, 66-47. They went on a 13-4 run at the end of the game, but it was too little too late.

“Hidden Valley played an outstanding game, and you have to tip your cap to them,“ said Cougar head coach Andrew Hart. “The second quarter the game got away from us as we got in foul trouble and it handcuffed us there. They scored it from inside and outside. The run what they run extremely well and they were just outstanding.”

The Cougar junior varsity got back on the winning track as they stopped their three game losing streak with a very convincing 53-25 win over the Titans. The Cougar junior varsity is now 12-5, as the duo of Dillon Porter and Hayden Gray led them to the win. Porter tossed in 18 points and Gray hit five three’s as he knocked down 17 points. Luke Russell had six and Chay Rollins four. The Titans got 11 points from Stephen Bell.

Pulaski Co. will hit the road this Friday as they travel to Blacksburg and then play the number one ranked Group 2A Gate City Blue Devils Saturday at Salem High School in the Adam Ward Classic. Friday night’s game at Blacksburg will see the junior varsity tip at 5:30 and varsity at 7:00 pm. Saturday’s game against Gate City will start at around 3:15 pm. If you go Saturday to Salem, get there early as Gate City games have been selling out wherever they play .
