Starting pitcher Dallas Beasley went four innings and gave up just one hit and no earned runs. He walked no one and struck out five. Bryson Booher then came in and tossed three shutout innings striking out four and surrendering just two hits.

Northwood (9-13) starter Chris Greer went the distance for the Panthers as he gave up just four hits in six innings. He struck out three and walked one. His trouble was hitting four batters, throwing a wild pitch and being called for a balk. He knocked in their only run of the contest in the top of the first after Brennan Turley reached base on a Fort Chiswell error. He drove a shot off the centerfield fence for a double. Their only other hits came from Skylar Call, who doubled to start the top of the fifth but couldn’t produce a run and Dalton Carter who had the last hit in the seventh, leading off. The Panthers would load the bases but Booher pitched out of the jam by striking out Spencer Carter to end the game. The rain fell for the last two innings.

Booher who scored two runs and hit two singles led Fort Chiswell (18-3) offensively. Tanner Bailey was one of three with an RBI. Two of their runs scored on an error and a wild pitch. The Pioneers took advantage of the Northwood mistakes.

“Dallas Beasley pitched extremely well for us today,” said Fort Chiswell head coach Derrick Jackson. He then remarked, “We’re not hitting the ball like we can. What can I say about Bryson (Booher)? He scored two huge runs and pitched well for us. He got out of that seventh jam for us to keep playing.” Coach Jackson then added, ”Booher finds ways to come through for us.“

The victory means the Fort Chiswell Pioneers will travel to UVA-Wise to take on the Auburn Eagles Wednesday at 4 pm in the Group 1 A West Regional semi-finals.

Bastian… The Fort Chiswell Pioneers added to their trophy case as they won the Conference 46 Championship 6-1 over the Galax Maroon Tide. They had already won the regular season championship and now have added the tournament trophy as well.

Chance Davis led Fort Chiswell (17-3) with three hits in four at-bats as he scored three runs and knocked in one. Concord-bound Bryson Booher hit a RBI double and also had a sacrifice fly for his two runs knocked in, to go with his one run scored. Dallas Beasley pitched three scoreless, no hit innings to improve to 6-0 on the season. He also struck out three.

Galax hitters were held to just two hits. Lucas Dalton singled in Stew Meridian in the first inning for their only run. Their other hit come in the seventh when Caleb Spurlin got a hit to right with one out.

The Maroon Tide’s biggest threat was in the first when they sent six batters to the plate but could only get one run leaving two runners on.

The Pioneers scored single runs in the first three innings and then pushed two more across the plate in the fourth to go up 5-1. They only scored one run in the sixth and they left the bases loaded in both the fifth and sixth inning.

Coach Derrick Jackson of the Pioneers said, “We didn’t hit the ball that well again tonight. We did play good defense and got great pitching.” Coach Jackson then added, “I’m very proud of the guys. Beasley and Booher pitched extremely well. Chance Davis played well for us. We need to get ready for Monday. I’m glad we are conference regular season and tournament champions. We got more work to do.”

Fort Chiswell will now play at home Monday against Northwood as they host the State Regional Quarterfinals. Fort Chiswell was supposed to play the Patrick Henry-Glade Spring Rebels, but they had to forfeit their conference tourney championship for using an ineligible player against Northwood. First pitch Monday is slated for 5 pm.
