Playing in front of a standing-room-only packed gym, the Fort Chiswell boys basketball team lost to their county rivals by the score of 53-37.

George Wythe is now 22-2 and have won 19 straight games. Malik Johnson scored 23 points; Noah Atwood contributed 12 points.

Fort Chiswell saw their record fall 18-6 as they were led by Tanner Bailey with nine points. Coach Derrick Jackson of Fort Chiswell said, “We played at our pace the first half, but the third quarter we lost the pace . Their length really bothered us. We wanted to make the game ugly, and we did for the first half.” Coach then said, “We missed Colby Rider tonight on the inside.” Rider has missed the last few games with torn ligaments in his ankle. Fort Chiswell will travel to undefeated Honaker Tigers. They are 23-0 and are led by 6’8″ Tanner Robinette. The game at Honaker will tip at 7 pm.

The Maroons Grayson Anders had 22 points, Elizabeth Jones 15 and Kaitlyn Poole finished with 14 in a losing cause.

Controversial, questionable call ends Cougars season.

William Fleming Colonels will move on to the regionals after a controversial call gave then three fouls shots at the end of the game for a 46-43 victory over the Pulaski Co. Cougars boys basketball. Andre Pullen took a off balance- falling back and double pumping as the clock hit zeroes and a foul was called. The the refs put 1.5 seconds back on the clock. Pullen would hit all three foul shots .

Cougars then inbounded the ball and their head coach Andrew Hart called a time out but the officials didn’t give him the “TO” and the clock ran out of time again. Coach hart was yelling for a time and one of the officials told him he didn’t hear him call it. The same official that had made a call that sent the Colonels to the foul line on a questionable call. The Colonels were called for only three fouls for the entire second half.

Pulaski Co . had played perhaps their best defensive game this year but a game ending- for all intense and purposes – had cost them an overtime and ended their season. Coach Hart said,” We played awesome defense tonight and fought all game long to lose like this is hard to take. I am so proud of the kids and I feel for them.” Heck of a game and for it ended the way it did is very tough.

After the game back in the hallway outside of the Cougar locker room their coaches well dejected, diasppointed and upset. The official that had called the controversial call step out of the officials dressing room and told the Cougar coaches , do you all want to talk to me? The same official that also that didn’t grant Coach Hart his timeout as the game ended for the second time.It was like he was trying to entice the Cougars into more than what had already had happened to their team and players.

It was a bad way for a playoff game to end and and bad way for a group of kids that had played their tails off for their season to end. Three seniors careers had also ended over a questionable call. The game in more times than not should have went into overtime . Fleming will go to the regionals while the Cougar team is left with a would ,could, should have been. The Colonels was called for only three fouls for the entire second half.

CC Grubb led the Cougars with 18 points ,stroking four long jumpers. Seniors Isaac Poe had 12 and Miguel Garcia chipped in with nine.

William Fleming got 12 points from Von Saunders, 11 form Andre Pullen and nine from Tyrelll Adams.

It was a heck of a way to lose a playoff game ,with a regional birth at stake ! It leaves a empty feeling that only a overtime ,should have been played to see who would have won the game and a regional birth .
